GENERAL REGULATIONS

1. In this part of the Regulations "Crematorium" means the buildings and/or grounds of the Portchester Crematorium at Upper Cornaway Lane, Portchester, and the "Joint Committee" means the Portchester Crematorium Joint Committee composed of representatives of the City and Borough Councils of Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport & Havant respectively-.

2. Cremations must be conducted strictly in accordance with the Regulations made by the Secretary of State for the Home Department dated 28 October 1930, under section 7 of the Cremation Act, 1902. section 2 of the Cremation Act. 1952. and section 10 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1926, or any modifications thereof. A copy of the current Regulations may be inspected at the Crematorium on the prescribed form.

3. Written applications must be made to the Manager and Registrar, Portchester Crematorium Upper Cornaway Lane Portchester Fareham Hants, Tel. No 01329-822533 between the hours of 8.30 am - 5 pm and at least 48 hrs before the time fixed for cremation.

4. Cremations will normally take place between the hours of 9 am - 3.30 pm Mondays - Fridays, and at such other times as the Joint Committee may, in exceptional circumstances, decide.

5. Cremations will not take place on a Saturday, Sunday, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and other Bank Holidays. Exceptions can only be made under extraordinary circumstances and then only at the discretion of the Medical Referee and Manager and Registrar.

6. All persons admitted into the Crematorium must comply with the requirements of the Manager and Registrar, or the person acting for him in his absence, who has the full power to exclude or remove from the Crematorium any member of the public whom in his discretion he considers it advisable to remove or exclude.

7. Children under 14 years of age will not be admitted to the Crematorium except under the care of a responsible adult.

8. No band or music will be allowed in the Crematorium except by permission of the Manager and Registrar. Applications for permission should be made to the Manager & Registrar before the date and time of the cremation is fixed.

9. Two representatives of the deceased person being cremated may see the coffin placed in the cremation chamber if they so desire. Any such request should be made to an authorised officer of the Joint Committee before the cremation service begins.

REGULATIONS REGARDING THE GROUNDS

10. No person shall:

(i) place on or dig or drive into the turf or cultivated ground, any vase, container, receptacle, metal, plastic or wooden stake or plaque, or drive any nail into any tree, or place artificial flowers or ornaments within the grounds.

(ii) unless authorised by an Officer or Servant of the Joint Committee plant any bulbs, seeds, shrubs, trees or any kind of plants whatsoever in the soil of the grounds of the Crematorium.

(iii) wilfully create any disturbance in the grounds of the Crematorium.

(iv) commit any nuisance in the grounds of the Crematorium.

(v) wilfully interfere with any trees, shrubs, flowers, plants or any such matter.

(vii) play at any game or sport in the grounds of the Crematorium.

(viii) bring any dog into the grounds (Guide Dogs excepted).

11. No person not being an Officer or Servant of the Authority or another person so authorised by or on behalf of the Authority shall enter or remain in the grounds of the Crematorium when it is closed to the public.
